For decades, trucks like the Ford F-150 Raptor have utilized leaf spring suspensions for their simplicity. However, in recent years, new suspensions have been introduced to a variety of different work vehicles. According to reports, Ford could be getting ready to utilize one of these new suspension methods.
Spy shots recently obtained by industry outlets like The Drive show the next-gen Ford F-150 Raptor with coil spring suspension.
So why would Ford switch out suspensions for this vehicle? As effective as the leaf spring suspension setup is for most trucks, those built for off-roading, like the Raptor, would find coil springs to be more advantageous.
This wouldn’t be the first time that Ford has utilized coil spring suspensions for its off-road truck. Internationally, the Ford Ranger Raptor model makes use of this suspension type, and has done so for quite some time now.
However, this doesn’t mean that all of the Ford F-150 models will lose their leaf spring suspensions. In fact, leaf spring suspensions are perfect for vehicles that have to tow and haul heavy loads, meaning that standard models of the F-150 will likely keep this suspension setup.
